Walking for exercise is one of the healthiest of hobbies!

If you’re like most folks, you sit in a chair for the majority of the day, drive home and then sit in front of the tube. Most of us don’t get any regular exercise! This can lead to a too-big behind and health conditions you don’t want. There’s an easy way to keep fit. Walking for exercise is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Done regularly, you stay trim, keep your heart healthy, with good circulation and reduced stress. Who can object? The trick is actually doing it every day. You may enjoy going for a walk every now and then, but you won’t reap the health benefits by taking a walk once a month!

Approach walking for exercise as a pleasurable hobby, not as work. “Hey, I’m going for a walk in the park! Want to join me?” Not, “Oh God, I’ve got to go out and walk now!” Just bite the bullet and make yourself do it for just a few days. By the end of the first week, you’ll feel deprived if you don’t go for your daily constitutional. You’ll already be feeling more energetic. You might even lose a pound or two! You may also be sleeping better and be less stressed out.

If you live in a rural area, there are dozens of routes you can map out for your walking for exercise program. It’s surprising how few people in rural areas take regular walks. Drive around your local roads, taking a few turns down roads you’ve never explored. Nature is fascinating, all year around. You’ll soon be familiar with every tree, berry bush and flowering cherry along the way. Having a few different routes makes walking for exercise more interesting, which keeps you keepin’ on.

If you live in the city, there are hundreds of walking routes to take. There’s no need to sprint along. Walk at a pace with which you’re comfortable. Stop to browse in that shop you never knew was there – because you drove by! Include a few hills, as possible. In inclement weather, drive to a museum for your daily walk and learn something new at the same time.

In the suburbs, walk outside of your own neighborhood and get a better sense of your community as you’re walking for exercise. Stop and chat with some of these almost-neighbors. Who knows, you might make a new friend or discover a romantic interest.

There is just one caveat in the walking for exercise hobby: you must have comfortable walking shoes. Buy a good quality shoe. It will cost a bit more, but a properly fitted walking shoe won’t give you blisters or sore feet. That would make for a perfect excuse to quit your fledgling hobby. That won’t do!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get started!

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 214,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. Women now face a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer at some point in their life.

The human breast is a gland that is composed of milk ducts, lobes, fatty tissue, and a network of lymphatic vessels. Cancerous tumors can develop in any part of the breast. These tumors can be detected through self-examination, mammograms or thermal imaging.

The majority of lumps discovered in the breast are cysts or fibroid masses. A lump that seems to be growing or does not move may be cancerous, or it may be caused by fibrocystic changes during the menstrual cycle.

If a lump is discovered, a biopsy is required to determine if it is cancerous or benign. In addition to tumors, breast cancer can cause a yellow, bloody, or clear discharge from the nipple.

Many people think of breast cancer as being a single entity; however, there are many different types of the disease. Some types of breast cancer include the following:

Not an allergy to dust per se, it’s a reaction to the proteins found in the feces and bodies of dust mites - microscopic creatures that love warm, humid areas like bedding and pillows. Don’t worry though, if you don’t have an allergy, dust mites won’t be harmful at all. For many airborne allergens like house dust mite, the higher the level of exposure, the higher the likelihood of a person producing “allergic” antibodies. High allergen levels also increase a person’s risk of becoming allergic and developing asthma. It’s thought that many asthmatics also have an allergy to dust mites.

Dust mite allergy is an allergy to a microscopic organism that lives in the dust found in all dwellings and workplaces. House dust, as well as some house furnishings, contains microscopic mites. Dust mites are perhaps the most common cause of perennial allergic rhinitis. House dust mite allergy usually produces symptoms similar to pollen allergy and also can produce symptoms of asthma.

Diet plans seem to be everywhere. And it isn’t always easy to figure out which one to try. So here are some quick diet tips to mix in with your plans any time.

• Regardless of your dietary plans, add some more fitness into the mix. Park farther away at the grocery store. Stop using a remote for televisions, videos, DVDs and gaming equipment. Take stair instead of elevators and escalators. Walk and bike instead of drive. Add in an exercise class into your evening or weekend and cancel out an hour of television at the time. Invite a friend, relative, neighbor, your child or your mate to go with you.
